Should fur be allowed to be fashionable?

This is quite a tricky question and always is the spark for a lot of debate amongst a lot of people. Should we kill animals for fur and allow that fur to parade along the cat walks as fashion? Put that way it seems very barbaric and any one with a bit of heart would have to immediately say no, that this should not be allowed, but this is not quite the way that it happens although the anti fur campaigners always try to twist things round so that killing animals for fur sounds just horrific.

Firstly the furs that are used for making fashionable items such as coats and jackets etc are obtained from animal farms. It is the same thing as where we get our meat to eat from; we get it from cow farms.

No one has ever made a big issue of how and why do cows get killed. Have you ever thought where that piece of veal has come from that is sitting on your plate? It has come from a small calf that has been confined to an enclosed area and been fed up as much as possible until the point that it is so fat that it can hardly move, and then is when they kill it so that people can have a nice juicy bit of meat called veal to eat. Is that not cruel? And what about the geese that produce our fois gras that spend their short life being force fed so that their livers become larger than normal so that we can have more of it to eat?

A mink lives on a farm and is fed and looked after and has all its needs tended to and when the right time comes he is mercifully killed just the same as the life of a cow, so where is the difference?

It has to be acknowledged that there are some animals that should not be killed for their fur and these definitely include the ones that are in danger of extinction and the ones where it is done cruelly but the ones being looked after properly on a farm?

A though to dwell on – fur is just as necessary for people who live in very cold places as the meat that we eat to survive.
